Product Description

Johannes Brahms: Violin Concerto, Op. 77 (Rec. 20/09/1955)
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: Violin Concerto, Op. 64 (Rec. 10/01/1953)

Ida Handel, violin
Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra
Hans Muller-Kray, conductor

When she was only three years old, little Ida put aside her dolls, took her sister's violin and tried, without any instruction, to play the song her mother was singing in the kitchen. This was the beginning of one of the most amazing musical careers in the twentieth century.
Between 1952 and 1967, Ida Haendel was repeatedly a guest of the Suddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) radio station, where she recorded the great Romantic violin concertos (Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Dvorak) together with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. The conductor was Hans Muller-Kray (1908-1969), who had been chief conductor and head of the main music department of the SDR since 1948. This conductor had done excellent groundwork and left a plethora of outstanding recordings from all areas of the repertoire.
