Taking a look back over the shoulder of the UK rock scene, the number of British bands whose work has informed and inspired over the last few years is pretty limited. Factor in the number of those bands who came from Scotland and numbers reduce so rapidly that there’s only really two that stand proud – the Jesus and Mary Chain and Primal Scream. And Bobby Gillespie was in both.

’Dirty Hits’ is the Primal Scream’s first ever compilation and covers all the band’s best moments from their ‘Screamadelica’ album onwards. And, whilst it’s nigh on impossible to pick out highlights from the set, there can be no clearer illustration of how the Scream have leapt from one rock style to another, leaving the myriad of lesser mortals and copyists in their elegantly wasted wake.
