きれいな景色のジャケットのアルバム、ECM時代とはテイストは違うけど。 もともと、シガニー・ウィバー、 ジュリアン・ムーア出演の映画 『A Map of The World』 にパット・メセニーがインスパイアされた音楽だそうです。 （シークレットストーリーにも参加した）ギル・ゴールドスタインが指揮するオーケストラにあわせてパットメセニーのギターやピアノが響く。 映画音楽らしく、FAMILY / 家族、HOME / 家、MEMORY / 記憶、ALONE / 孤独というタイトルの短めの曲が並びますから。一曲ごとではなくてトータルで聴いてくださいね

パットの紡ぐ音楽にはいつも「アメリカの息づかい」を感じる。アメリカの片田舎、ウィスコンシンを舞台とした物語に添える音楽が書けるのは彼しかいない。彼の弾くギターの音色は、どこまでも続く大地に渡る風のようだ。ギル・ゴールドスタインのオーケストラ・アレンジも奇をてらったものでなく、空気のような存在だ。スタインベックの「チャーリーとの旅」を読みながら聴いている。

外で思いっきり遊んで帰ってきた夕暮れ時にかけてください。ゆったりと、美しく、澄み切った幻想の世界へあなたを誘ってくれることでしょう。このアルバムはメセニーが関わったアルバムの中で、最高傑作といっても言いすぎでないと思う。
