Reissue of this 1979 album from the R&B, funk, soul, and rock icon. In the mid-1980s Prince was moving at an unbelievably fast pace; recording sessions for the follow-up to Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, were already underway before the film had even opened in theaters, and the completed album was released just two weeks after Prince and his band completed their six-month Purple Rain Tour. Few albums showcase Princes fiercely independent taste quite like Around the World in a Day, which joyfully whisks his new fans in a dizzying array of sonic directions. Pulling in Middle Eastern instruments like the darbuka drum, finger cymbals and the lute-type guitar the oud, Prince and the Revolution weave a decidedly paisley tapestry of psychedelic, dreamy sounds.

前作と比べると少し意外な作品です。ヒット曲も収録されていますが、全体的にはよい意味で緩さを感じます。そして、特に作品の後半には、クセになる楽曲が並んでいます。頭を空っぽにして聴くのが好きです、殿下や彼のファンに叱られそうですが笑

「パープルレイン」の次に突如現れた殿下の「踏み絵」的なアルバム。これ以降プリンスを聞かなくなった方（笑）、あるいは更にのめりこんで行かれた方、分かれたのではないでしょうか。このアルバムからシングルカットされた１２インチ盤シングルを探したものでした。いつの日か全ての１２インチバージョンをリマスターで一気に手に入れたいものですね。話が逸れましたがこのアルバム、サイケなプリンスが文字通り「時空を超える」旅に連れて行ってくれます。

前作『Purple Rain』と同時期に既に完成していたという話を当時聞いた記憶がありますが、凄まじい才能の洪水ですね。 御好きな方も多いようですが「POP LIFE」が白眉です。 ジャケットもPOPで美しいですし。 もしこんなアルバムを楽々と作っていたとしたら「天才」以外の何者でもないですね。
